Enter Handling Unit Types
Explanation
This activity is used to create and maintain handling unit types. This task
is to be performed by a system administrator or an equivalent person.
Handling unit types are available when you define
the handling unit structure, either for parts in templates, in inventory, in
shop order, for a
shipment etc. The handling unit structure is built up by defining a
structure of different handling unit types which in turn can contain a specified
number of parts. When a particular handling unit type is selected, the weight of
the handling unit type is included in the calculation of the total weight of the
handling unit structure. This handling unit information can be used when planning load
volumes and weights.
By specifying additive volume for a handling unit type, it determines that
the volume of the handling unit is dynamic and defined by the content attached
to this handling unit. A typical example of such a handling unit type is a
pallet. Handling unit types not having additive volume would typically be a box
which has a fixed volume, regardless of content.
Prerequisites
At least one handling unit category must exist. Typical categories could be
pallets or packages, but it is possible to freely define the handling unit
categories desired.
System Effects
	- A handling unit type is defined, including the weight and volume.
- The defined handling unit types can be used in different processes e.g. the shipment process,
the receipt process, in inventory processes etc.
- The defined weight of the handling unit type is included in the
calculation of the total weight of the customer order, the load list or in
	the shipment.
- The defined volume of the handling unit type is included in the
calculation of the total volume of the customer order and the shipment.

Procedure
	- Open the Handling Unit Types
	window and
	then select New.
- In the Handling Unit Type field, enter an ID, using no more than
	25 alphanumeric characters.
- Enter a description for the handling unit type.
- Enter the handling unit category to be used for this handling unit type.

- Optionally, enter a volume and select an appropriate UoM for volume from
	the List of Values.
- Optionally, enter the standard weight of the handling unit type and
select an appropriate UoM for weight from the List of Values.
- Optionally, specify whether the handling unit type has additive volume
	or not.
- Optionally, enter dimensions, maximum volume or weight capacity and if
the handling unit type is stackable or not. These values are only used as
	information.
- Optionally, decide whether the handling unit type should use the
handling unit reservation ranking to prioritize complete handling units at
reservation of one demand line. Could be used to reserve complete handling
units in bulk zones prior to picking zones.
- Optionally, enter transport task capacity to control the number of handling units
that a transport task can have. A task will split into several more according to the capacity set.
- Save the changes.
